1953 Bowman #130: Cass Michaels, Philadelphia Athletics, 2B

Cass Michaels went to the Athletics during the final month of the 1952 regular season where he remained through the end of 1953.  Michaels hit 12 HR's in 1953, which was good enough for 3rd on the team behind Gus Zernial and Eddie Robinson.  He was 2nd on the team in Stolen Bases and 4th in RBI and Walks.  He started most of the games at 2B for the Athletics--backed up mostly by Pete Suder.  Michaels would play his final season with the White Sox in 1954, which was the team he started with in 1943.

His final game would be against the Athletics on August 27th during the team's final season as a Philadelphia franchise.  His final At Bat came in the Top of the 3rd inning in Philadelphia with Jim Rivera at 3rd.  Michaels was hit by a pitch thrown by Marion Fricano, and had to be taken out of the game.  Johnny Groth came up next and hit a homerun to score both runners.  Michael's White Sox beat the A's 11-0 that day.
