1951 Topps #A-38: Duke Snider, Brooklyn Dodgers, OF

Duke Snider was born in Los Angeles, CA on 9/19/1926.  Snider began playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.  He made the all-star team seven times with the Dodgers in '50, '51, '52, '53, '54, '55, and '56.  Snider appeared in six different World Series in '49, '52, '53, '55, '56, and '59.  He won a total of two World Series rings in '55 with Brooklyn and in '59 with Los Angeles.  Snider led the league in Hits in '50.  He led the league in Runs three times: '53, '54, and '55.  He also led the league in RBI's in '55.  In '56, he led the league in HR's and BB's.   He just missed winning a third World Series with the '63 team.  Snider was actually traded to the NY Mets in 1963 where he made the all-star team again--for the eighth, and final time.  He finished his major league career with the San Francisco Giants in 1964.  In 1980, Snider was inducted into the HOF and the Dodgers retired his number #4.  Duke Snider passed away in Escondido, CA on 2/27/2011 at the age of 84.

BV: $60.00 (listed star)
Cost: $8.99 (paid 15% BV)
Condition: VG 3.0 (worth 25% BV)
Completion: 10 of 104 (9% complete)
Comments:  For the tenth addition to my collection, I get to include my first listed star.  Most noticeably, there's an ink spot on the back with two minor creases on the front.  There's some wear around the edges and corners with a small stain in the center.  So far, it's the best deal that I have received on a '51T card so far.
