1951 Topps #B-34: Earl Torgeson, Boston Braves, 1B

Earl Torgeson was born on 1/1/1924 in Snohomish, WA.  He began playing 1B for the Boston Braves in 1947.  Torgeson appeared in his first World Series against the Indians in 1948, and led the league in Runs in 1950.  He was traded to the Phillies in 1953, the Tigers in 1955, and the White Sox in 1957.  He went to his second World Series against the Dodgers in 1959.  Torgeson was traded to the Yankees in 1961 where he would win his first World Series ring against the Reds.  It would also be his final major league season as a player.  Earl Torgeson passed away in Everett, WA on 11/8/1990 at the age of 66.

BV: $30.00 (common)
Cost: $4.27 (paid 14.2% BV)
Condition: FR 1.5 (worth 10% BV)
Completion: 8 of 104 (7% complete)
Comments: Centering is nice, corners have minor wear, and edges have minor chipping.  The surface has good color, good focus, a little gloss, and no print spots or stains.  It has moderate creasing throughout.  This is my first Blueback card from the '51 series.  Besides the noticeable difference between the color of the backs, the only other difference between RB's and BB's are that the Bluebacks say "...IN B SERIES OF 52" instead of "...IN A SERIES OF 52".  I consider both sets of 52 cards to be one set of 104 cards total that I will integrate together into team sets like I do to all of my other card sets.  I will treat the two Redback variation cards as Traded series updates (for a total of 106 cards).
