Ed Lopat was born on 6/12/1918 in New York City, NY. He began playing for the Chicago White Sox in 1944. In 1948, Lopat was traded to the Yankees. He was a member of the team as one of their top 3 pitchers through 5 straight World Series Championships in '49, '50, '51, '52, and '53. Lopat made the All-Star team in '51, and led the league in ERA and Win Percentage in '53. In 1955, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles where Lopat finished off his MLB playing career by the end of the season. Lopat coached for the Yankees in '60, the Twins in '61, and the A's in '62. In 1963, he began managing the Kansas City A's, which continued throughout the '64 season. Ed Lopat passed away on 6/15/1992 in Darien, CT at the age of 73.
